About Indoor Garden Space

Welcome to Indoor Garden Space. I started this site to help people grow and manage plants in small homes and apartments.
For years I ran a truck farm in Washington State, growing fruits and vegetables for the fresh market. Farming taught me how plants really work — from soil health to light, climate, and seasonal timing.
But life changes. I moved into apartment living and had to rethink everything I knew about growing. No acreage. No fields. Just windows, containers, and limited space.
That shift forced me to simplify, experiment, and adapt. I began focusing more on houseplants, compact edibles, and smart placement strategies that actually fit into real homes.

Why This Site Exists
Indoor Garden Space is built for people who love plants but don’t have unlimited space, perfect lighting, or outdoor gardens.
Here you’ll find practical, apartment-friendly advice — choosing the right plants, placing them smartly, keeping them healthy, and avoiding the clutter and chaos that can come with indoor growing.
My background in farming gives me technical knowledge. My experience in apartment living keeps everything realistic.
From Farm Fields to Apartment Corners
When I was nine, I begged my dad for a packet of sweet corn seed. He told me it wouldn’t grow — but it did. That curiosity eventually led me into farming full time.
Today, I still grow plants. I just do it differently. Indoors. In containers. In spaces that require creativity instead of acreage.
And that’s what this site is about now — helping you build a thriving indoor plant space, no matter how small your home might be.

More About Me

My name is Steve and I love growing things. Always have. As a kid I was always playing in the dirt.
My mom always said I was either going to be an archeologist or a farmer. Of course, she wanted me to become an archeologist but I became a farmer instead.
I grew up in a house filled with plants. Of course, we did not know about lighting like we do today. So most plants we grew were low light ones.
My mom loved house plants and for better or worse she instilled this trait in me.
So naturally, I also grow houseplants and there are many benefits to growing houseplants.
I have a healthy case of climate zone denial and I want to grow plants that are tropical or subtropical. Growing indoors means you are no longer limited to your local climate.
If you live in Southern California this may not even be an issue but if you live in Washington or Michigan and want to grow citrus it certainly is.
Final Thoughts
Whether you’re working with a sunny window, a shaded corner, or just a few square feet of space, I believe you can build a thriving indoor plant setup that fits your life.
Indoor Garden Space is where practical experience meets real-world limitations — and where small homes can still feel full of green.
I’ve grown in open fields, and I’ve grown in tiny apartments. Both taught me something different.
Now I focus on helping you grow confidently in the space you actually have — not the space you wish you had. That’s what Indoor Garden Space is all about.
